General Description
FOB-5 is an oil soluble preservative used in the control of bacteria that degrade crude and refined oils (diesel, kerosene, gasoline) during transportation and storage. FOB-5 should be added to the oil as it is being transferred from the transportation container to the storage tank. Addition should be made batch-wise where mixing occurs or continuously to the suction side of the transfer pump.FOB-5 is also useful for controlling microbiological growth in specific applications including:
cooling tower wood, industrial and commercial cooling water and process systems, drilling fluids, process injection or produced waters in petroleum secondary recovery processes.
Application for Crude and Refined Oils:
2.4 to 24 fluid ounces (17.8 to 178.6ppm) of FOB-5 per 1000 gallons of oil based upon the weight of the oil.Application for Microorganism Control in Cooling Water Systems:
0.8 to 5.9 fluid ounces (5.9 to 35.7ppm) of FOB-5 per 1000 gallons of water in the system. Initially a slug dose of 2.4 to 14.8 fluid ounces (17.8 to 110.1ppm) should be made and this dose should be repeated until control is evident.Other Applications:
For specific application rates for wooden cooling towers, drilling fluids, petroleum secondary recovery, or any use not covered by this bulletin, please consult with your technical representative.Physical Properties
