These products are designed to aid in the containment and clearing up of oil spills, and form the basis of spill response or safety kits. The booms and socks should be placed around the spillage while the pillows, rolls, pads and sheets are used to adsorb the bulk of contaminating liquid.

White Oil Absorbents are all hydrophobic (will absorb Hydrocarbons but repel water and water based products).

Brown or Gray Absorbents are hydrophilic (will absorb water).
